SBP directs banks to process 200,000 metric tonnes sugar export quota
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) directed banks to process sugar export cases for 200,000 metric tonnes of sugar. The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) previously approved the export of this 200,000 metric tonnes of sugar.
Furthermore, the MNFSR and PSMA issued operational modalities for the sugar export quota. All sugar exports must be processed against either a sight letter of credit or advance payment.
Shipments of sugar must exclusively utilise sea transport. Banks are required to submit details of sugar export transactions and shipment updates to the SBP every Friday by 4:00 pm.
This export quota of 200,000 metric tonnes has been allocated across 79 sugar mills.
