Hunter's Moon illuminates global skies over the weekend

Known by several names including the Hunter's Moon, this celestial body is famous for remaining in the sky for a particularly long time. Historical traditions in the Northern Hemisphere provide the roots for the Hunter's Moon designation.
Atmospheric conditions cause the Moon to take on an orange or reddish hue when it sits low in the sky. This specific coloration occurs because the atmosphere scatters short wavelength blue light as the Moon passes through a large depth of air.
