Pakistan forms four technical groups to boost marble exports and value addition
The Ministry of Industries and Production established four technical groups to provide recommendations on marble finishing, technology upgrades, value addition, and export promotion. Haroon Akhtar Khan, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Industries and Production, chaired a Steering Committee meeting on 15 October regarding the National Marble and Natural Stone Policy.
The Prime Minister constituted this Steering Committee to oversee the development of the sector's industrial framework. Rana Ihsan Afzal participated in the session, which focused on improving finishing standards and modernizing production techniques to increase international exports.
Officials noted that conventional blasting methods in quarrying frequently lead to significant wastage of valuable marble. The meeting highlighted that products featuring intricate workmanship and high value-addition could achieve greater recognition in global markets.
Participants concluded by emphasizing the need to turn the objectives of the National Marble and Natural Stone Policy 2026–2030 into practical measures.
