Azam Nazeer Tarar defends Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor's emergency rule procedure

Azam Nazeer Tarar informed a joint sitting of Parliament on 15 October that the provincial governor in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa followed constitutional procedures to impose an emergency or governor’s rule. The governor fulfilled his constitutional responsibility by adhering to the specific requirements laid down in the law.
Public discussion and media coverage followed after the contents of the governor’s letter were made public. During a press conference, the governor delivered a speech regarding the situation in the province.
Tarar stated that invoking Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution was not an unprecedented action. The lawmaker cited previous constitutional cases, including those heard by the Supreme Court, to support his position.
Constitutional provisions and amendments introduced in 2010 require a proclamation to be presented for approval before the relevant forum.
