Shehbaz Sharif seeks expanded legal migration for Pakistani workers to Europe

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for the expansion of legal migration opportunities for Pakistani professionals and skilled workers to European countries. Magnus Brunner visited Pakistan for the first time to discuss these initiatives during a meeting focused on enhancing migration and mobility cooperation between the two regions.
Migration and mobility represent one of eight core pillars within the Pakistan-EU Strategic Engagement Plan 2019. Sharif reaffirmed that Pakistan remains committed to strengthening its partnership with the European Union across every pillar of the engagement plan.
To combat irregular migration, Pakistan is currently implementing institutional strengthening, legislative reforms, international cooperation, and effective enforcement measures. Brunner praised the government's cooperation and the specific measures Pakistan has adopted to address migration issues.
The EU official expressed confidence that these joint efforts will promote mutually beneficial labour mobility and broaden legal pathways for migrants.
