Saad Hussain argues human judgment remains essential as AI capabilities expand

Saad Hussain published an article on 15 October titled 'When machines can do more, what should we do?' to explore the evolving role of human workers. With over 20 years of experience in software development, Hussain highlights that artificial intelligence can now write code, recognise patterns, and make decisions.

These systems are already integrated into hospitals, schools, governments, and various business communities. AI-driven choices determine critical outcomes such as loan approvals, job candidate assessments, medical diagnoses, and the content children see online.

Hussain asserts that responsibility cannot be automated despite these growing capabilities. The shift in technology means a team can produce a prototype in days, moving the competitive advantage toward identifying the correct problem rather than just possessing building resources.

While technical skills remain relevant, Hussain notes that empathy, curiosity, and critical thinking may become equally valuable as people navigate the consequences of automated systems.

Pakistan agencies warn public against sharing family routines on social media

The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) and the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) warned citizens in Pakistan against sharing family daily routines, locations, and personal information on social media platforms. Sharing posts could expose households to security risks by revealing sensitive data about family members' activities and whereabouts.

Photographs, captions, and daily updates may inadvertently disclose private information that malicious individuals can use to determine when family members are at home or away. Citizens have been advised to avoid tagging home locations, disclosing their whereabouts, or posting details about daily schedules.

Users were urged to limit personal information shared about family members on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and X. Protecting family privacy requires greater caution because publicly shared information could be misused by others.

The organizations encouraged citizens to adopt safer social media practices and reduce unnecessary sharing of personal data.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and assembly speaker placed in protective custody

Authorities placed the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the speaker of the provincial assembly into protective custody. Mazhar Abbas claimed that the security situation serves as a pretext to target Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Abbas further stated that the entire provincial government and assembly, along with the chief minister, have been held in abeyance. Justice (r) Wajihuddin Ahmed asserted that the constitutional court possesses the power to take cognisance of the chief minister's protective custody.

The judge noted there is no legal provision allowing for the arrest of a chief minister in any form under these circumstances. Ahmed also argued that courts should question the imposition of an emergency.

Abbas contended that no court would examine such matters because the judiciary has been brought within the ambit of government authority. Abbas added that all major political parties were signatories to the National Action Plan (NAP).

Qualcomm wins legal victory against Arm in Delaware court ruling

Qualcomm wins legal victory against Arm in Delaware court ruling

A Delaware jury ruled in favour of Qualcomm against Arm, finding that the company breached obligations regarding software patches and tools for licensed designs. The jury also determined that Arm interfered with business negotiations between Qualcomm and Meta.

$2 in damages was awarded to Qualcomm, consisting of $1 for each of the two claims it won. Arm successfully defended itself against five other claims brought by the chipmaker.

Qualcomm stated it was pleased that the jury found Arm had breached its long-standing Architectural License Agreement and had intentionally interfered with Qualcomm’s business. The penalty for such breaches is specified within the licensing agreement between the two firms.

Arm argued that the $2 damages award supported its position. Both companies are scheduled to appear before US District Judge Maryellen Noreika for further proceedings.

Regional nations should separate political contestations from practical issues and explore cooperation through mini lateral arrangements. There is a possibility that China could be invited to participate in these mini lateral initiatives.

Asifa Bhutto Zardari publishes article on UNDP Pakistan website regarding sustainable development

First lady emphasises community engagement, trust for sustainable development

Asifa Bhutto Zardari published an article on the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pakistan website to discuss sustainable development. She argued that public service requires listening to people, understanding their concerns, and supporting those whose voices are often unheard.

Sustainable progress relies on a shared commitment to improving lives through cooperation and inclusive leadership. Pakistan faced devastating floods in 2022, which necessitated climate-resilient reconstruction efforts like the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) initiative.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari engaged with families affected by the floods and advocated for Pakistan's situation on the international stage. The Benazir Income Support Programme serves as a mechanism to provide social protection and help vulnerable families manage economic hardship.

In Pakistan’s efforts to eradicate polio, building trust with families through frontline health workers is as critical as the actual delivery of vaccines.
