These shutdowns are intended to facilitate the construction of flyovers, underpasses, road widening, and the installation of new 11kV feeders. IESCO management apologised to consumers for the temporary interruption of service.

The updater communicated with abandoned web domains using unencrypted HTTP and ran an insecure, outdated version of Chrome. Niels Teusink stated the updater could have been used to install and run basically any kind of software with full privileges.

On Windows, the update stops and disables the service via the Service Control Manager, while the macOS version uses a shell script to block the process from starting. Eye Security did not address the software on Android devices, but security programs on VirusTotal flagged the update as malware and blocked it.

Over 2 million update downloads were sent out by March, and Eye Security subsequently transferred the domains to the Shadowserver Foundation.

Complaints regarding the merit-based hiring process within the Sindh job system persist despite new recruitment protocols. The Sindh Assembly and the Prisons Department contracted a private testing firm to manage examinations for various roles.

Sukkur IBA University provided testing services for the recruitment of positions ranging from BPS-5 to BPS-15. Candidates who achieved a minimum of 40 marks through the Sukkur IBA University tests were deemed eligible for these BPS-5 to BPS-15 roles.

District-level authorities handle the recruitment for positions classified as BPS-1 to BPS-4. The Sindh Public Service Commission manages the filling of positions at BPS-16 and above.

Examinations for these higher-level roles were conducted by the Sindh Public Service Commission in 2024. A Sindh Job Portal was launched in 2025 to facilitate the hiring process.

The Sindh Assembly and the Prisons Department have refused to adopt certain government measures, citing their autonomous status.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rejected the suspension of its provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which federal authorities enacted in October 2026. Federal authorities stated that security concerns provided the justification for removing the PTI administration from power.

Pakistan will discontinue the issuance of traditional machine-readable passports (MRPs) starting 23 October 2026. Passport offices throughout the country and Pakistani diplomatic missions overseas will issue only e-passports from that date.

The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports confirmed that the 22-year-old machine-readable passport system is being phased out. Citizens currently holding machine-readable passports may continue to use their documents until the stated expiry dates.

Expired machine-readable passports will no longer be eligible for renewal under the new regulations. The country began issuing e-passports in March 2022, initially providing them only to diplomats and residents of Islamabad.

In August 2023, all Pakistani citizens were given the choice to obtain either a machine-readable passport or an e-passport. Pakistan issued handwritten passports beginning with the country’s independence in 1947.

The interior ministry stated that the issuance of MRPs would be discontinued within a month.

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) must re-evaluate 52 proposals for drug price adjustments, including a planned increase for influenza vaccines. The Environment Department is operating anti-smog guns throughout Lahore to mitigate air pollution. Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb directed the ongoing operation to manage the city's air quality.

Director General Environment Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh oversees the deployment of the machinery. Field teams are currently monitoring environmental conditions across the city to identify areas requiring intervention.

Pakistan Railways equipped the Lahore Cantt Railway Station with a computer-based interlocking (CBI) signalling system. The station is scheduled to receive the CBI signalling system within the next couple of months.

Work began at Shahdara Station to replace the old kanta system with the new CBI technology. Following the initial phase, the railway plans to install the system at Raiwind and Okara Cantt.

Engineers prioritised the installation at Cantt Station because of the complexity of the yard. Trial operations for the CBI system opened at Cantt Station on 21 October 2026.

Inamullah Khan stated, "It is a fully automated system that sets the route, ensures safe train operations and records all operational activities related to interlocking and operators." The Punjab Environment Protection and Climate Change Department (EPCCD) has opened three project-based positions under the CM Punjab Green Credit Program in Lahore. Funding for these roles originates from the ADP scheme known as the “CM Punjab Green Credit Program, EP&CCD, Punjab.”

One Senior Manager for the Emission Trading System is being recruited at the PPS-11 pay scale. A Technology-Based Carbon Specialist position also offers a PPS-11 pay scale, while the Legal & Contracts Officer role carries a PPS-10 pay scale.

The Embassy of Hungary in Pakistan hosted a celebration to mark Hungary’s National Day, which also commemorated the 1956 revolution. MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Company BV sponsored the festivities, which featured folk dancers who travelled from Hungary for the occasion.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi offered Pakistan Railways’ cargo and freight services to transport poultry feed across the country during a World Egg Day 2026 celebration. The Sindh government has proposed a $30 million biogas development project to create sustainable energy alternatives. Five centralised facilities will be established across Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Larkana, and Shaheed Benazirabad.

Processing livestock manure into agricultural inputs and clean energy is the primary objective of the scheme. Daily production targets include 120,000 cubic metres of biogas, 63,000 cubic metres of biomethane, and 45 tonnes of organic fertiliser.

The Sindh Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development Department (ECC&CDD) will lead the initiative. District administrations, the Sindh Livestock Department, and the Sindh Energy Department are designated as implementation partners.

Approximately 250,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions are expected to be avoided every year. Cumulative reductions are projected to reach 5 million tonnes over a 20-year period.

The project currently remains at the proposal stage.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reaffirmed his commitment to eradicating polio during a recent address. The Chief Minister declared that there would be no negligence or compromise in the ongoing fight against the virus.

Shah stated that Pakistan and Afghanistan remain the only two nations where the wild poliovirus continues to circulate. Polio is a dangerous and incurable disease, but timely vaccination can protect our children from lifelong disability, Shah said.

Dr Syeda Rashida Batool conducted a breast cancer awareness session at the Medical Centre G-9 on 24 October. The event was held as a component of the Pinktober awareness campaign.

The Peshawar Northern Bypass project is scheduled for completion by 31 January 2027. Construction on Package-I is now fully finished.

Work on Package-II has reached 79 percent completion, while Package-III-A is 82 percent finished. Package-III-B stands at 75 percent completion, and the Charsadda Road Flyover has reached 25 percent.
