Google Maps displays live fuel prices starting Thursday, boosting pump transparency

Google will display live fuel prices on Google Maps starting Thursday, a move expected to increase transparency at petrol pumps and stimulate market competition. The AA president, Edmund King, stated that Google Maps transparency represents a massive step forward for the industry.
Furthermore, Polly Billington, the minister for energy consumers, asserted that locating the cheapest fuel should be straightforward for consumers. Diesel prices have seen a significant increase, with the average diesel price in the UK reaching a record £2 per litre.
This price hike means diesel costs have risen by more than 40% since late February. Previously, the government introduced its Fuel Finder scheme in February.
The CMA issued a recommendation in 2023, and later cautioned fuel retailers in August.
