Punjab Transport Authority sets deadlines for motor car fitness certificates

The Punjab Provincial Transport Authority clarified the fitness certificate requirements for motor cars on 15 September 2026. The authority stated that motor cars with engines up to 1,000cc must obtain a fitness certificate five years after their manufacture.
For vehicles with engines between 1,001cc and 2,000cc, the required fitness certificate must be obtained six years post-manufacture. Motor cars possessing engines exceeding 2,000cc need a fitness certificate seven years after they were built.
Furthermore, the authority confirmed that the fitness certificate itself remains valid for a period of one year. Vehicle owners are granted thirty days to secure valid fitness certificates before enforcement commences.
Legal action against vehicles operating without the necessary certification is scheduled to begin on 15 October 2026.
