Attacks on tankers in Strait of Hormuz hit weekly high, JMIC reports
Attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz reached a weekly peak, according to reports. The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) noted ongoing harassment and attempted attacks by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards within the Strait of Hormuz.
Specifically, the week spanning 28 September to 5 October saw at least twelve attacks targeting oil, liquefied natural gas, and liquefied petroleum gas tankers near the Strait of Hormuz. This period marked the highest number of attacks recorded in a single week since the US war with Iran commenced on 28 February.
Separate data from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) documented nine incidents involving vessels during that same week. Furthermore, India reported that twelve crew members sustained injuries after an unidentified projectile struck the Panama-flagged oil tanker On Peace while it transited the Strait of Hormuz.
