Turkiye submits Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defence pact to parliament for ratification
Turkiye submitted a defence pact involving Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to its parliament for ratification. The three nations signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in August.
An armed strike against any single member of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement is considered an attack on all participants. During an emergency meeting in Riyadh earlier this month, the alliance agreed to ensure the rapid deployment of military capabilities and forces in Saudi Arabia.
Turkiye also agreed to join a coalition led by Saudi Arabia to maintain navigational safety in the Red Sea. Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus will refer the agreement to the foreign affairs commission once he returns from Kyrgyzstan.
A Turkish official stated that Turkiye’s contribution was expected to be limited to weapons systems, intelligence sharing, and military equipment. The commission could debate the agreement as early as Friday.
