RDA launches inquiry into Rawalpindi Ring Road design changes costing billions

An inquiry into alleged alterations to the Ring Road’s initial design commenced in July, following concerns about the project's scope. Additional Chief Secretary Ahmed Raza Sarwar sought the complete documentation pertaining to the project.
The Rawalpindi Ring Road project, which measures 38.3 kilometres, was initially awarded in March 2022. Sources within the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) report that approximately 90 percent of the construction work is now finished.
The project's initial cost was estimated to exceed Rs. 53 billion. Furthermore, reports indicate that repeated revisions and delays have resulted in an additional expenditure of around Rs. 30 billion.
Questions regarding modifications to the Ring Road’s original blueprint first surfaced in 2022 during the tenure of the PTI government.
