Earth nears 1.5°C warming limit as scientists assess climate recovery

The world is currently approaching a global temperature rise of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The United Nations stated that maintaining warming below this limit would only be achievable if the planet exceeds the threshold and then cools back down by 2100.
Research suggests the Amazon rainforest possesses the capacity to recover from brief climate-related shocks. Scientists are uncertain whether the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, a critical ocean current, could be revived following a collapse caused by climate change.
In Antarctica, the Thwaites glacier appears impossible to save even if melting driven by the ocean stopped immediately.
