Pakistani small merchants adopt digital storefronts as smartphone use rises
Small merchants across Pakistan are moving their businesses to digital storefronts as smartphone adoption accelerates in the country. Neighborhood grocery stores are now processing hundreds of online orders to serve customers.
Independent food operators are also joining delivery networks such as foodpanda. Lowering the barrier to entry, this digital transition enables women to run kitchens from their homes.
Digital logs of orders are generating transparent records for these small-scale traders. Muntaqa Peracha stated that Pakistan has become the largest grocery market for foodpanda globally.
Hassan Arshad serves as the Director of Policy and Communications at foodpanda Pakistan.
