Punjab government withholds rankings of province's top 10 universities

The Punjab government has failed to publish the official ranking of the province's top 10 universities. Last year, authorities launched a performance-based evaluation project to assess more than 60 universities throughout Punjab.
Sources at the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) estimated the project would cost Rs50 million. These rankings were intended to be updated on an annual basis.
A professor claimed the provincial government seemed hesitant to disclose the scores, evaluation metrics, and the specific names of the top 10 institutions. This ranking scheme operates independently from the PHEC's work to establish measurable performance indicators for university vice chancellors.
The commission approved key performance indicators (KPIs) for public sector university heads last year. Designed to evaluate leadership, the framework focuses on measurable academic and administrative achievements.
