North Carolina Senate race: Cooper leads Whatley by eleven points

Republican Michael Whatley trails Democrat Roy Cooper by eleven points in the North Carolina Senate race, according to an AARP poll released on Monday. The Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) has begun redirecting advertising expenditure from Michael Whatley’s campaign to aid other candidates.
Previously, the SLF had committed $71 million to help secure the North Carolina US Senate seat. The Cook Political Report assesses the North Carolina Senate contest as leaning Democratic.
Former governor Roy Cooper secured the Democratic nomination with relative ease. The SLF had originally intended to allocate an additional $30 million to support Whatley.
Voters in North Carolina can begin participating in in-person early voting starting on 15 October.
