TSA bans airport officers sitting while checking IDs in US airports

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) confirmed it will prohibit airport security officers from sitting down while checking travellers’ identification documents at US airports. The TSA stated that officers must remain capable of executing their essential national security duties.
This rule change, the TSA confirmed, aims to keep the officers 'alert'. Security checkpoints require TSA officers to verify both boarding passes and identification cards.
Furthermore, the TSA requires that its officers meet specific fitness for duty standards. The American Federation of Government Employees Council (AFGEC) asserted that the policy change disregards safety and 'common decency'.
The AFGEC also announced it is reviewing legal avenues concerning the privatization of security checkpoints. The TSA was proceeding with the implementation of this policy modification.
The agency previously endured a 76-day government shutdown spanning from February to April. TSA personnel received payment at the close of March.
The government shutdown concluded on 30 April.
