KEDA dealers submit 231 recovered phones worth Rs 5 million to CPLC

The Karachi Electronic Dealers Association (KEDA) reported that dealers recently submitted 231 stolen, snatched, and missing phones, valued at approximately Rs 5 million, to the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC). Over the last ten years, a total of 3,386 mobile phones, which were stolen, snatched, or missing, amounted to a value exceeding Rs 285 million handed over to the CPLC.
Under an agreement involving KEDA, the CPLC, and local police, dealers now check both new and used smartphones against CPLC records before they are resold. Rizwan Irfan stated that dealers are adhering to standard operating procedures to stop stolen and snatched phones from entering the resale market.
Furthermore, the association and dealers have detained around 20 suspects who attempted to sell large amounts of questionable phones despite receiving warnings. Previously, the government had considered imposing a ban on the resale of used mobile phones back in 2016.
