Pakistan targets one million AI professionals by 2030 with new policy

Generative AI tools are currently being utilised by graduates and service-sector workers across Pakistan. However, Pakistan remains at an early stage of digitisation, showing widespread use of tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini but possessing limited understanding of their broader implications.
Muhammad Burhan Mirza stated in a 2023 interview that the adoption of AI and big-data within Pakistan stood at an extremely early stage. Furthermore, Mirza pointed to deficiencies in data infrastructure, skilled personnel, and regulatory frameworks as obstacles to broader business adoption.
The National AI Policy 2025 sets a goal to train one million AI professionals by the year 2030. The government also announced a $1 billion investment into the nation’s AI ecosystem alongside a programme designed to train one million non-IT professionals in AI skills.
