Kenya confirms first Ebola death, tracing case to Congo origin

Kenya confirmed the death of its first Ebola case, which originated from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Health Minister Aden Duale stated that the patient, a Kenyan citizen who resided in the DRC, passed away after arriving in Nairobi on Saturday.
The patient, who became ill a month prior, underwent normal public screening at Nairobi's main airport before a relative transferred him to a city hospital. Subsequent tests confirmed the presence of the Ebola Bundibugyo virus.
Aden Duale confirmed that twenty-eight contacts, including family members and health workers, have been identified so far. Meanwhile, the DRC has recorded over 8,000 cases and more than 4,000 fatalities from Ebola.
In contrast, Uganda reported twenty Ebola cases and two deaths, though the World Health Organization declared the country free of the disease in August.
