SpaceX plans $40 billion raise for Nvidia AI chips, funding expected by 2027
SpaceX intends to raise $40 billion to purchase Nvidia AI chips, a transaction anticipated to conclude in 2027. This funding structure will comprise $10 billion sourced from bank loans and an additional $30 billion from investment-grade debt.
Morgan Stanley estimates that the entire AI infrastructure sector will require $1.5 trillion in external financing by 2028. Musk stated that xAI’s Colossus 2 data center could potentially double the quantity of Nvidia chips it employs by December.
The company plans to build its data centres using Nvidia hardware exclusively. Furthermore, Nvidia has partnered with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs, and KKR on financing platforms designed to mobilize over $500 billion for AI infrastructure projects.
In related market movements, shares of the rocket and spacecraft manufacturer dropped 1% during extended trading. Conversely, Nvidia’s stock saw a rise of 0.5%.
