Andrew Garfield's 'Artificial' role could earn him an Oscar nod

Andrew Garfield may secure an Academy Award nomination for his performance in 'Artificial' and his portrayal of Sam Altman, inspired by Norman Bates. The movie recounts the actual events of the five days in November 2023, detailing when OpenAI's board dismissed its CEO, witnessed over 700 staff threatening to walk out, and subsequently reinstated him.
Luca Guadagnino and screenwriter Simon Rich build a compelling and often humorous argument that those five days represented humanity's final opportunity to slow the pace of artificial intelligence. Neon is submitting Borisov as the lead actor and Garfield in a supporting capacity for the awards season.
Borisov, who was nominated for an Oscar for 'Anora' in 2024, delivers a notably powerful performance. The film will screen next at the BFI London Film Festival before showing in select cinemas on Christmas Day, followed by a wider release in January.
