PMDC removes MDCAT requirement for Pakistani students studying medicine abroad

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) withdrew the mandatory requirement of passing the MDCAT for Pakistani students planning to study medicine or dentistry abroad. The PMDC formally announced this decision on 5 October 2026.
This action exempts Pakistani students from needing the MDCAT as a prerequisite for gaining admission into foreign medical and dental institutions. PMDC President Dr Rizwan Taj stated that the decision followed a recommendation from a parliamentary committee.
Students who continue their medical or dental education overseas remain exempt from the MDCAT requirement. Conversely, students wishing to transfer to a university within Pakistan during their studies must clear the NEB assessment.
Furthermore, any individual intending to practice medicine in Pakistan after completing their education abroad must pass the registration examination for foreign medical graduates. The PMDC conducts the NEB examination twice annually for medical graduates who have completed their studies overseas.
