France Suspends Stun Grenades During Student Protests Amid Education Concerns
France suspended the use of stun grenades during student protests, an action confirmed by the French government. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez ordered the suspension of stun grenades for policing student demonstrations.
During a recent clash with riot police, a 15-year-old boy sustained the loss of his hand. High school students expressed anger regarding dilapidated school infrastructure, teacher shortages, overloaded timetables, and insufficient funding for education.
Evidence suggests French 15-year-olds scored 43 points lower in reading in 2025 compared to a decade prior. The CGT stated it will continue to support young people and shield them from police repression and violence.
Meanwhile, at least 107 people were arrested in connection with student protests in Liege, Belgium. In Portugal, FENPROF launched an indefinite strike in mid-September.
Teachers in Madrid have scheduled a strike for 14 October.
