Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh urges regulatory reforms to boost Pakistan investment climate

Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh called for a simplified regulatory framework and stronger regional trade ties during a CEO summit. Sheikh stated that Pakistan must improve its investment environment by streamlining procedures for businesses.
Around 70 per cent of global trade occurs within Southeast Asia, according to the official. Pakistan's exports have remained steady at approximately 30 billion dollars.
Small and medium enterprises along with the agriculture sector currently receive only about 7 per cent of total bank lending. High interest rates of 40 to 50 per cent force small businesses to rely on informal borrowing sources.
Sheikh noted that Pakistanis residing abroad possess significant financial resources and investment potential. Sustainable growth requires effective economic planning, technology transfer, education, and human resource development.
The official also highlighted joint ventures with South Korean companies as a key development.
