Shehbaz Sharif declares emergency in KP after dialogue efforts fail

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced the imposition of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after consultations with allied parties on 13 October. The decision came following the failure of attempts to resolve the current situation through dialogue.
"It’s now or never," Sharif stated during a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz parliamentary party meeting. To improve governance in the province, an advisory council of professionals and experts has been constituted.
The federal government plans to establish Safe City projects and strengthen both the Counter Terrorism Department and the police in KP. Previous efforts by the federal government involved offering cooperation to various provincial chief ministers to advance economic development and fight terrorism.
Sharif also criticised sit-ins and long marches, describing them as threats to the country's economic progress. Historical data shows that terrorism was largely eliminated from Pakistan by 2018.
"It’s now or never," said Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
