Looting of Olympique de Marseille store follows Marseille protests
Protesters looted the official Olympique de Marseille store on La Canebiere, causing substantial damage and forcing a temporary closure. Thousands of people were arrested during the demonstrations, which were triggered by public dissatisfaction over declining services and high prices.
Marseille authorities implemented a ban on demonstrations and public gatherings from 1000 GMT until 1800 GMT. Olympique de Marseille condemned the violence and looting of the store in the strongest possible terms and expressed solidarity with its partner Puma.
The club currently sits ninth in Ligue 1 after playing seven matches. Marseille is scheduled to face Sturm Graz in the Europa League this Thursday.
