Greece passes law banning children under 15 from social media

The Greek parliament approved a law prohibiting children under the age of 15 from using social media platforms. This legislation is scheduled to become active on 1 January 2027.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis first revealed the government's intention to implement the ban in April. The New Democracy party utilised its parliamentary majority to secure the passage of the bill.
Pasok party members chose to abstain from the vote, despite proposing a different version of the law. Nationalist and left-wing parties voted against the measure.
Australia was the first nation to enact a social media ban for children under 16 last year. More than 20 countries have now enacted comparable laws.
